ABOUT

You can never really forget that moment when you realize you have found your passion. For me, that moment was when I found UX design. It felt as if this path was meant for me, a combination of creation, analytics, and people.

I’ve had the opportunity to work in a variety of roles from finance, to community management, to design. By switching from one field to another, I’ve gained a wide lens view of how to tackle problems and gained confidence in my ability to wade through new industries and experiences.

As a designer, I am a listener and a creative, striving to solve everyday problems by designing with the user's voice as my driving force.

Aside from my passion about making a life within UX design, I am also passionate about cooking and spending quality time with family and friends.

Why are you a designer?

The most exciting part about being a designer is that technology is constantly changing and individual’s behavior is as well as they interact with these changes. The creation process itself is so fascinating.

Empathy is a huge part of design and without it we can’t truly create a good experience. In business, empathy is lost in a lot of ways and how amazing is it to have a job that truly values it?!?

What has shaped you to become a designer?

I’ve had an unorthodox career to say the least but I think all of these experiences have helped shape me to see things in a wide-angle lens.

  • In finance, I know to crunch the numbers and identify quantitative trends

  • In community management, I was handling different types of support and logistics work for our project manager and ux team (writing screens and communicating)

  • All these experiences have helped to shape me into who I am as a designer today.

Name three non-designers you feel inspired by when designing.

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

You mentioned TED talks, what TED talk has inspired you recently?

There are so many TED talks that have inspired me! It is hard to choose just one but if I had to choose one that I think everyone should listen to that has really educated me it would be Haben Girma’s talk “Why I work to remove access barriers for students with disabilities.” I also recently finished reading her book as well and highly recommend it to any designer. Haben is a true advocate for equal opportunities.

What are your hobbies, and how did you get into them?

My two main hobbies include salsa dancing and cooking. I first fell in love with salsa dancing back in 2015 going out dancing with a friend. After that I didn’t dance much but then I ended up meeting a coworker (my now husband) and we took classes together. After one class, I ended up joining a salsa performance team and performing across New England!
